Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem road to close temporarily from June 11

Shillong, June 9: Commuters along the Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem road will face daily closures from June 11 as the Meghalaya government begins construction work involving heavy machinery on the stretch between Chainage Kms 24+00 to 34+00.

Announcing this, the Sub-Divisional Officer, Pynursla Civil Sub Division said the closure is being enforced “in the interest of public safety, prevention of accidents and smooth execution of the construction work.”

The order is in continuation of a previous order dated May 21, 2026.

The road will remain closed daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and 10 PM to 5 AM until further review.

Authorities said all traffic will be allowed to cross from both ends, Laitlyngkot and Lyngkyrdem, latest by 10 AM, after which construction will begin from 10:30 AM onwards by the concerned company.

The arrangement will be temporary and on a daily basis, and shall remain in force until the next review and further order, the notice stated.

With the onset of monsoon, the administration has strongly advised commuters to exercise extreme caution while traveling through the stretch. The public has been asked to avoid non-essential travel during or immediately after heavy rainfall and during night-time hours.

Emergency vehicles including ambulances, fire service, and police will be allowed passage during closure hours, subject to safety assessment by on-site authorities and are asked to contact Pynursla Police Station at 98622 51116 for coordination.
