The 6th Meghalaya Games opened to a display of vibrant colors showcasing rich diversity of the state and the people here at the Wahiajer stadium in Jowai with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announcing the “Games Open” before a packed audience on Tuesday evening.
Athletes from across the state converged at Wahiajer stadium, cheered on by an excited crowd, as they took part in a parade that showcased the diversity of Meghalaya as one.
Declaring the games open, chief minister Conrad K Sangma encouraged the youth to embrace sports, assuring the people of the state that the government is committed to ensuring its promotion.
“We are holding the Meghalaya Games in different parts of the state to demonstrate equal representation among all regions and provide an opportunity for talented youth to take part and showcase their skills,” said the chief minister.
Deputy CMs Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang Dhar, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, other cabinet ministers and dignitaries took part in the opening ceremony.
The glittering ceremony was also attended by Ambassador to India, Embassy of Uzbekistan Sardor Rustambaev.
