Shillong, Jan 11: Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta, Assistant Professor and Group Leader of the Nanobiotechnology and Translational Knowledge Laboratory at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), has been awarded the International Research Networking Project (RNP-2024) grant by the Government of Malta.
The project—titled “Developing therapeutic functional foods by formulating symbiotic microcapsules using edible mushrooms as prebiotic resources—MYCO-BIO” and coded as RNP-2024-008—is jointly led with Professor Renald Blundell of the University of Malta under the XJENZA MALTA initiative. Dr. Mohanta said, “This endeavor will significantly advance the development of functional foods, positioning mushrooms as a promising future food resource.”
Dr. Mohanta has previously completed a DST-ANRF grant (2022–2024), demonstrating his research credentials. The RNP-2024 project aims to forge robust research collaborations between USTM and the University of Malta, enabling reciprocal academic exchanges and laying the groundwork for future innovations.
