Tura, Oct 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has appealed to voters of Gambegre constituency to vote consciously and in favour of the ruling party claiming it helps to accelerate development projects that benefit the people.
The national president of the NPP on Sunday campaigned at Sanjengpara and Mebitpara under Gambegre constituency for the upcoming bye-election scheduled for November 13.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s wife, Dr Mrs Mehtab Chandi A Sangma, is the NPP candidate for the Gambegre bypolls.
The chief minister cautioned voters against giving away their votes to either the Congress or other political parties in the opposition saying, “A vote for the opposition won’t find the kind of development that a ruling party can provide. Voting for the ruling NPP will benefit Gambegre and boost development in the constituency”.
The chief minister made this comments after being approached by people from the area who met him and poured out their grievances about the poor roads, schools and health facilities in Gambegre.
“This election is about the ruling (NPP) against the opposition parties. A combination of husband and wife ( CM and wife) will be a boon for Gambegre, since your MLA will keep me abreast of the needs of the constituency and my role will be to ensure problems and issues are tackled head on,” assured Conrad Sangma.
He also castigated the opposition Congress terming it “weak in the knees” after it lost three of its legislators to the NPP over “poor leadership” in the party.
“Before the Lok Sabha elections the Congress had 5 MLAs. Then Saleng resigned and soon after 3 sitting MLAs left the party over its weak leadership and joined our NPP realizing the importance of our party dedicated to the welfare of the people,” said Conrad Sangma.
The chief minister also poonted out that many opposition leaders and workers in the Congress and the TMC are leaving to join the NPP realizing the need for a change and development of their constituency.
