KHADC upgrades its library

Shillong, July 24: Governor of Meghalaya Phagu Chauhan on Tuesday inaugurated the up-graded library of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). The upgraded library was inaugurated in the presence of all members and employees of the KHADC.

Speaking to media persons, Chief Executive Member (CEM) KHADC Pyniaid Sing Syiem said since the inception of the autonomous district council in Meghalaya in 1952, the library of the council was not up to date.

Syiem informed that inside the upgraded library, various books, documents and other information are stored ranging on the traditions, governance, social custom, information about Chiefs, Raid, villages, land tenure system in the Khasi Hills and records on acts, rules and regulations, proceedings.

“The oldest record about the proceedings of the KHADC, dated back to 1952 and such records will be stored in the library,” said Syiem.

He added that apart from storing various vital information, the library will also house books written by members of the KHADC and others, for example, senior leader BM Lanong had donated two books which he had written.

“The KHADC is working closely with the librarian of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to identify the kind of books to be stored at the newly inaugurated library,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CEM informed that soon the district council will release the publication of 40 publishers who are conducting research on various subjects.
