Tura, March 15: After three days of violence that had gripped Tura, the situation in West Garo Hills district has remained peaceful since Thursday, with no reports of any untoward incidents from any part of the district over the past four days, Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal said on Sunday.
In view of the improving situation, the district administration has announced a 12-hour relaxation of the curfew from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on March 16, 2026, allowing residents to carry out essential and routine activities.
During the relaxation period, educational institutions, offices, banks, and other establishments will function normally.
However, as a precautionary measure to ensure continued peace and stability, the curfew has been extended from 6:00 AM on March 16 until 6:00 AM on March 17, 2026, unless withdrawn earlier.
Meanwhile, community-led efforts to promote harmony continued with the Peace Crusade led by church leaders holding its fourth consecutive day of prayers, including a prayer service held at Chandmari Playground in Tura.
Aggarwal expressed appreciation to the local communities for their cooperation and sustained efforts in preventing further violence and maintaining peace.
Security forces remain deployed at strategic locations as the administration and police continue to closely monitor the situation across the district.
