Shillong, June 2: The Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum has urged Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to formally bring the Khasi Pnar villages of Block-I under Meghalaya’s administrative fold, saying recognition is key to securing rights and services for residents.
In its letter handed over to the Chief Minister at his official residence on Tuesday, the Forum said, “(We) respectfully requests your favourable consideration to recognize and include the Khasi Pnar Villages of Block – 1 within the State of Meghalaya.”
The memorandum referred to action already taken at the Council level, stating: “The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council has reunified and officially notified the Elaka Labang Nangphyllut on 8th November 2023 through Notification NO. JHADC/POL/23/2021/19, appointing Shri Prolin Samayang as Acting Dolloi and issuing him the Sanad (Certificate).”
According to the HBDRF, the process has moved further on the ground. “Furthermore, Sanads have been issued for the Waheh Chnong (Headman) and the notification of the villages as documented,” it said.
Stressing the need for State-level action, the Forum said, “It is of utmost importance that the Meghalaya government recognizes and incorporates these villages into the State of Meghalaya, ensuring that the residents of these areas receive their opportunities in all respects and necessities.”
