Online trade license system under examination: KHADC

Shillong, June 18: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is examining the feasibility and pros and cons of introducing a fully online system for trade licenses.

This was informed by KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Winston Tony Lyngdoh during the ongoing session of the Council on Friday.

In reply to a question by Laban MDC Ricky Shullai on whether the Council had any intention or proposal to introduce online trade services, Lyngdoh said the matter is “being examined.”

He added that the Council had discussions with NIC last year to seek suggestions on implementation.

“We might need a separate budget if we go ahead to implement it online,” the CEM stated.

Lyngdoh clarified that some digital services are already in place.

The KHADC currently uses an online system only for renewal of trading licenses and for professional tax.

A fully online portal would help the Council track the number of applications and monitor their status more efficiently.

However, for fresh trading licenses, applicants will still have to visit the KHADC office.

The CEM also noted that the Council has not recorded any profit from the existing online services so far.
