Assam Rifles DG lauds veterans

Shillong, Mar 24: The Director General Assam Rifles praised the contribution of the veterans and the serving soldiers of Meghalaya during the Veterans Day held at the Assam Rifles headquarters in Shillong on Sunday.

Attending as the chief guest, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, DG Assam Rifles commended the veterans for their immense contribution in ensuring the security and prosperity of the North East and the country. 

Senior officials, veterans and veer naris took part in the gathering to celebrate the legacy and contributions of the Force.

The event was marked by a series of events, including a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial, followed by speeches from senior officers highlighting the achievements of the Force and its veterans.

A mega Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen Rally for Ex-Servicemen of Shillong, Meghalaya was also conducted under the aegis of Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles at Shillong, Meghalaya on Sunday. 

The rally elicited participation by more than 118 Ex-Servicemen from all the districts of the State including Gallantry Awardees, Veer Naris, Widows and their dependents. The rally entailed establishment of Medical camps, ECHS helpdesk, Banking facilities, Grievance redressal cell. 

The rally was organised under the theme “Serving Those Who Served Us” to connect with the veterans, strengthen bonds with them and also acknowledge their contribution made for the country during the prime of their lives. Veer naris, veterans and widows were also felicitated on the occasion.

Assam Rifles has a total of 97,264 Ex-servicemen country wide and a total of 587 Veer Naris. These come under the umbrella of ARESA which are located in all the states. 

At present there are 35 ARESA Centres all over India and 03 Pension Paying Offices (PPO) in Nepal to oversee the welfare of Assam rifles veterans.
