Shillong, June 29: The Joint Action Committee representing truck owners in Jaintia Hills has hit back at reports claiming it is coercing members to fund a felicitation event for state ministers.
Responding to newspaper reports alleging that ₹1,000 per truck was demanded for a programme to be held at the State Library to honour the Deputy Chief Minister, the committee said the association has neither planned nor prepared any initiative to collect money in such a manner.
The JAC confirmed it is organising a felicitation for three government ministers of Meghalaya at the State Library, Shillong on July 1, 2026, but stressed that the event will be financed solely by the association.
“Regarding the intention to organize a felicitation programme… the JAC will bear all expenses entirely from its own association funds, and not by soliciting, begging, or demanding money from members or truck owners,” said the committee.
The committee alleged the reports were part of an effort to discredit it. “The JAC understands that this allegation is merely a malicious tactic intended to defame and tarnish the principles and good reputation of the association in the eyes of society,” it said.
It appealed to truck owners and members to disregard the claims, describing them as “rumors, gossip, and baseless, unfounded allegations.”
