Shillong, May 14: Meghalaya is pulling out all stops in its bid to emerge as a digital and IT-enabled services hub as the NASSCOM Industry Leaders’ Meet 2026, held in Shillong on Thursday, brought together top technology firms, skilling agencies, and policymakers to chart the State’s IT growth roadmap.
A major highlight of the event was the signing of an agreement between StaffFlex Resolutions LLP and the Meghalaya Technology Parks Society for leasing space at Shillong Technology Park-II, making StaffFlex the first confirmed occupant of the new facility. The development was seen as a key step in operationalising Meghalaya’s expanding IT infrastructure and boosting investor confidence in the State’s technology ecosystem.

The programme, organised by the Information Technology & Communications Department, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with NASSCOM at the State Convention Centre, focused on strengthening IT-enabled services, creating employment opportunities, and building a future-ready skilling ecosystem for local youth.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who chaired the Round Table discussion with industry leaders, said Meghalaya’s IT sector growth has been the result of a long and gradual process of ecosystem-building.
Reflecting on his earlier tenure as IT Minister in 2008, Sangma said the momentum took years to materialise. He noted that while progress remained limited for nearly a decade, the government renewed its focus on developing the sector after 2018 through infrastructure expansion and policy support.
The Chief Minister said the State’s second IT Park is now ready, while another facility is being developed in Tura. He stressed that technology growth cannot depend solely on competitive advantages, but must be supported through a broader ecosystem involving infrastructure, skilling, industry partnerships, and governance reforms.
Addressing industry stakeholders and training institutions, Sangma emphasised the importance of collective participation in shaping Meghalaya’s digital future. He said the government remains committed to supporting long-term sectoral growth rather than pursuing symbolic agreements without implementation.
During the Round Table interaction, industry leaders from BPM, IT, and startup sectors proposed measures to strengthen Meghalaya’s emerging digital economy. Key recommendations included the creation of a flagship innovation hub, a dedicated startup task force, faster policy implementation mechanisms, and structured collaboration between industry and academia.
Participants also highlighted the urgent need to align skilling programmes with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cognitive systems, prompt engineering, cyber hygiene, and compliance-oriented digital services. Industry representatives cautioned that automation is rapidly reshaping BPM and IT job profiles, making anticipatory skilling critical for future employment.

Ease of doing business, faster regulatory clearances, and stronger single-window systems for companies setting up operations in Meghalaya also figured prominently during the discussions.
Sangma reiterated the government’s commitment to digital governance reforms and outlined a long-term vision of positioning Shillong as a regional hub for IT services, innovation, and AI-led governance solutions.
The meeting was attended by senior representatives from companies including Wipro, TaskUs, Alorica, Tech Mahindra, Infosys BPM, Concentrix and other industry stakeholders, along with senior leadership from NASSCOM.
The event also featured an Industry, Academia & Skilling Session, where industry experts and academic institutions discussed strategies to strengthen Meghalaya’s talent pipeline and improve alignment between skilling initiatives and evolving industry demands.
