BSF evacuates ailing person from remote border village

Shillong, July 31: Thanks to yeoman’s service provided by the Border Security Force (BSF), a seriously ill person from a remote and inhospitable terrain along Indo-Bangla border was safely evacuated to Shillong for treatment.

The BSF Meghalaya Frontier demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian service by saving the life of the 45-year-old man in Hawai Bhoi village near BOP Muktapur in West Jaintia Hills district, the BSF said in a statement.

The village headman Phumen Shadap on Wednesday approached BSF personnel at BOP Muktapur with a request for urgent medical assistance for the sick person, Sanjay Shadap, who was suffering from Hematemesis (vomiting of blood).

Road to the village was in very poor condition and there was no ambulance service was available in the village.

BSF authorities responded positively and deployed a Bolero Camper vehicle to reach the village through the challenging terrain.

The patient was first evacuated to BOP Muktapur and then transferred to a BSF ambulance for further evacuation to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong.

He is currently stable and receiving treatment at NEIGRIHMS, the BSF said.

“The BSF has been actively involved in various humanitarian initiatives, including medical camps and emergency medical evacuations, showcasing its dedication to serving the nation and its people,” it added.
