CM launches slew of initiatives in WK Hills

We will continue to listen, engage, and work towards resolving their concerns for the greater good of our people and the progress of the State. – Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minsiter

Shillong, April 15: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday launched several significant development initiatives – from holding CM Connect to inaugurating a Prime Hub – in West Khasi Hills district.

At the CM Connect programme at Ksehkolong near Nongstoin, the Chief Minister interacted with the residents and listened to their concerns, issues and needs.

“During the interaction, the people raised several important issues for redressal, including the approach road to Langshiang Falls, link roads to villages, and concerns regarding private school teachers’ salaries, among others,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X.

He assured the residents of working towards addressing the concerns and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure equitable and inclusive development.

Later, he inspected the tourism site at Nohthlong.

Also present on the occasion were Nongstoin MLA G Wahlang and West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak.

“We will continue to listen, engage, and work towards resolving their concerns for the greater good of our people and the progress of the State,” he said.

PRIME Hub inaugurated

The Chief Minister on Wednesday inaugurated a PRIME Hub, a modern aggregation and processing facility, at Pyndenglawar at Nongstoin, in the presence of Nongstoin MLA G Wahlang, Rambrai MLA RG Momin among others.

The new PRIME Hub built at the cost of Rs 5.92 crore will be a centre for training, supporting and skilling women, farmers and youth, the Chief Minister said.

“There are immense opportunities in the rural areas of the state. There are different strengths that our people have with different sectors producing different products, but no support to train them or provide them with the technology in processing, packaging and providing market accessibility,” he said.

Powered by a Community-Public-Private (CPPP) model, the Hub will be anchored by Pyndenglawar Intergrated Village Cooperative Society (IVCS), reflecting the State’s focus on community-led and cooperative driven economic development.

It focuses on value chain creation, local winery products, medicinal and aromatic herbs, floriculture and ginger value-added products and is expected to benefit over 3500 farmers.

New Nongstoin Durbar Hall

In another initiative, the Chief Minister on Wednesday inaugurated the New Nongstoin Durbar Hall at New Nongstoin.

In his address, the Chief Minister said the Dorbar Hall is the result of the community, the local leaders and the community coming together to serve the people of the state.

“This beautiful hall is an example of how the community and the elected representatives can come together to create something which is really meaningful and beautiful,” he said.

He further said real development will take place when government works closely with traditional institutions and local bodies and assured the Dorbar Shnong of New Nongstoin of the government’s support in its endeavours in the larger interest of the society.

RMSA School Mawlieh inaugurated

The Chief Minister also inaugurated RMSA School Mawlieh during his tour of West Khasi Hills on Wednesday.

Also present on the occasion were Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Rambrai MLA RG Momin, Nongstoin MLA G Wahlang among others.

Highlighting his government’s focus on holistic and inclusive development across the state, he said education is one of the top prioritised sectors for the government.

He emphasised on investment in youth and education for sustainable development, saying, “It is not just about building school and educational buildings or providing educational infrastructures and amenities, but our every decision is a part of the larger vision and goal we have for the state.”

Expressing satisfaction over the new RMSA School, he urged the teachers of the school to remind themselves each day of the difference and impact that they can have on a student’s life.

In his message to the students, the Chief Minister said there are still many villages and students who do not have access to a proper educational infrastructure.

“…consider yourselves fortunate to be studying in a school with a building, furniture and teachers… work hard to be successful,” he said.

The RMSA School Mawlieh was first established purely as a private school run by a community of seven villages in 1961 to provide education to the people of the area.

It is one of the oldest educational centres in West Khasi Hills District especially in Rambrai area and was later provincialised to a fully Government Upper Primary School.

Due to non-availability of secondary schools in and around the area, the Government in order to prevent the drop-out rate has taken a decision to up-grade the school to Secondary Level under Samagra during the years 2014-2015 and to Higher Secondary Level 2023-24.
